A preprint of my recently submitted journal article, “Evaluation of the Ambipolar Diffusion Approximation in Partially Ionized Rarefied Hypersonic Flows”, is available on arXiv. Renewed interest in plasma-based spacecraft technology motivates exploration of electrostatic solvers in hypersonics research. We propose a novel framework for analyzing electrostatic hypersonic plasma behavior and evaluating the validity of the conventional ambipolar diffusion approximation. You can check out our work here.
